The Pura Belpré Books Club is an exciting way to bring diverse literature into the lives of our students. The Pura Belpré Award is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
The award is named after the beloved NYC Public Librarian Pura Belpré.
Students are asked to read from the list provided. Book titles were chosen carefully, including books of varying authors and genres. All titles are Pura Belpré Award winners or honor books.
To participate, students are asked to complete a journal form of questions.
They will submit the forms to Mrs. Schencker as they complete.
Journal Sheets here
Students who complete the challenge will be rewarded with a celebratory lunch in the LIbrary!
The deadline for reading all 10 books and completing all 10 jouranl sheets is December 15, 2023.
